HIGH SCORING WEEKEND
November 11, 2007

Between 3 Yankee teams (U10, U11 and U13) the club managed to rack up a 24-0 scoreline; all the more impressive is that it was done in a manner that the coaches could be happy with. The soccer was good and the scoring came often but the coaches knew that it wasnt just 'one player dominating' as some teams tend to have.

The U10 Pride traveled to Middlefield to take on Coginchaug and came away with a 9-0 result. a 4-0 halftime score and a 5 goal second half set the tone for some quality soccer to be played by everyone. Players rotated positions (including GK) and a lot of wrinkles are starting to be ironed out in terms of technique! Good work, ladies!

The U11 Comets played against a fiesty Eastern FC team to finish off the fall season. The 5-0 scoreline was a positive finish for a team that has had a tremendous fall thus far. Way to go ladies!

The U13 Blaze finished their U13 League Campaign with a solid 9-0 win over Sportsworld Mutiny. The result puts the Blaze's final qualifying record as 3W-2L-3T and 12 points. Yankee was having their way in a game that showed some bright spots for the team, including goalkeeper Megan F who came out of the goal in the second half to score her first goal as a member of the Blaze. Congratulations, ladies!

In other action club wide, the U12 Revolution (Boys) battled back to a 2-2 draw with Everton. Going down 2-0 before halftime, the Revolution pulled one back before the whistle to make it 2-1. In the second half, the Revolution came out fighting, only to equalize with less than a minute prior to the end of the game; nothing less than they deserved for their efforts. Way to go, guys!

COMETS U12 TAKE LEAGUE TITLE
November 4, 2007

The weekend of Nov 3 and 4 brought some scattered results from the teams of Yankee United, however, the U12 Comets shone bright in wrapping up their first league title in their first try. The team traveled for the second time in two weeks up to 'Casino Country' in the hopes that they would come away as champions of the U12 CJSA Fall League. By scoring two tremendous goals in the first 8 minutes (Anna G and Cate A), the Comets secured a 2-1 victory and claimed the U12 league title with a compostie record of 5-1-0. Congratulations, Comets!

In other action from the weekend, the U11 Comets had a 2-0 weekend, defeating Amity 'A' by a score of 4-0 and turning around on Sunday and defeating Shelton 6-0. The U10 Pride also had a good weekend of soccer and although they lost their Saturday game against a Madison U11 team, rebounded on Sunday to put up 9 goals against a good Prospect team! The U12 Revolution (Boys) posted a 1-1 weekend getting a great 6-0 result against Academica after a loss on Saturday. Overall a good weekend of soccer, leading into the winter and the Yankee United Winter Clinics! Good job, Yankee!

UNDEFEATED WEEKEND
October 28, 2007

This past weekend was an undefeated weekend across the board for the youth and developmental teams of Yankee United. The U10 Pride had an impressive display, traveling to New Haven to compete against the U10 New Haven travel team. Leading by a great deal at halftime, the Pride played a second half where they could work on some of the finer points of their technical and tactical game. The U11 Comets traveled to Guilford where they faced the U11 Guilford Premier team. A 6-2 result was nothing less than the Comets deserved with the team playing some of its best soccer to date. The U12 Comets traveled to Waterford to take on Southeats Premier, a very noteworthy foe for the Comets. The Comets pressed one step closer to winning the league by coming away with a 1-0 win, needing now only a tie to wrap up the team's first league title. The U13 Blaze traveled to New Haven as well, to take on the South Central Shamrocks. Although the Blaze came away with a tie (1-1), the Blaze could hold their head high in playing a good game in less than stellar field and weather conditions.

The U12 Revolution (Boys) and U14 Comets had the weekend off due to weather from Friday, cancelling their Saturday games. Good work all around this weekend to all Yankee United teams!

U11's and U12's LEAD THE WEEKEND RESULTS
October 21, 2007

The U11 Comets set out this weekend to obtain two quality wins and thats exactly what they got. Traveling to Branford the day after a heavy rain, the Yankee U11's were able to face the North Branford U12's and battle hard. In the end, Yankee came away with a 5-1 victory, looking into Sunday against Naugatuck. Once again on the road, Naugatuck proved a worthy opponent and overcoming 3 penalty kicks given against the Comets were able to squeeze out a 3-1 win.

The U12 Comets had two very early games this weekend 8:30 and 8:00 both Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Saturday's game, the Comets traveled to East Windsor to play indoors against Sportsworld Mutiny. Facing small goals to have to score on, the Comets were only able to muster 2 goals, however playing very well to come out with a 2-0 league win. Sunday morning, the Comets faced a tough Academica team, who have always proved to be a worthy opponent. The Comets came out firing though, ending the game with a great 4-0 win. Congrats to both teams on great weekends!

In other action, the U14 Stars and U14 Comets faced off in the league. The Stars edged out the Comets 2-1 and the U13 Blaze battled to a 2-2 league draw at Beachside. Good work to all!

POSITIVE RESULTS CLUBWIDE
October 14, 2007

Good results were showing club wide this weekend with a combined record of 5W-2T-1L. The U10 Pride went 2-0 on the weekend with wins over the Hamden U11's (3-2) as well as a dominating 1-0 win over West Haven. The U11 Comets hosted the U11/U12 Middlebury Comp team, coming out with a very positive 5-2 victory in their first 11v11 competition in some time. The U12 Comets tied South Central's U12's 1-1, and while it wasnt a win, the Comets played very well showing their development to this point. The U13 Blaze came out of the weekend with a 4-0 win versus Soccer Extreme and then traveled to Glastonbury to play a talented Oakwood team in the U13 league qualifying schedule. 1-1 would be the end result; not a bad score given the setting. The U14 Stars would round out the club's winning weekend with a 4-0 romp of Beachside. Congratulations to all the players on a good weekend!

SILVER KIND OF WEEKEND
October 8, 2007

Six Yankee United teams traveled out of state this past weekend and while all teams showed well, silver was the outcome for three of the teams. The U14 Comets traveled just over the state border into Massachusetts. The Comets got out of their group and into the semifinals versus Burlington Ajax, whom the Comets tied in the earlier group stage. The game went into overtime where Burlington scored first, only to see the Comets score mere seconds from the end of the second overtime period to force the game into penalty kicks. The shootout went into the 8th kicker, where unfortunately the Comets fell short.

In other action this weekend, the U13 Blaze, U12 Comets, U12 Revolution (Boys), U11 Comets and U10 Pride traveled to Nashua, NH. In a positive weekend for all the teams, 4 out of 5 teams advanced into the semifinal round and 3 of the 4 semifinalist teams advanced into the finals.

The U10 Pride (playing up in the U11 'Classic' division) advanced to the finals on penalty kicks, only to fall short in a valiant effort 4-2. A last minute penalty kick against the Pride saw any chances of a comeback dashed, but for the team's first tournament together it was a very positive weekend.

The U11 Comets got to the final in a somewhat untested fashion, winning their semifinal by an impressive 6-0 scoreline. The final saw some difficulty, playing against a quality opponent and unfortunately the Comets fell short 2-0, but once again showed that they are a very talented team.

The U13 Blaze were the third and final team to compete in the Nashua finals. Playing nearly back to back games for the semifinal and final, the Blaze's exhaustion hit new levels, going down 3-0 by halftime. The Blaze rebounded and dominated the second half but recovering from a 3-0 deficit was just too much. The Blaze took home the club's 3rd silver medal of the weekend, but with 8 new players on the roster, was a great accomplishment somewhat early still in the soccer year. Yankee United would like to congratulate all the teams on a great weekend!

To wrap up the weekend, the U14 Stars played against CFC Arsenal. Falling down 1-0, the Stars battled back to defeat CFC 4-1 in the U14 Fall League! Good work to everyone!

ANOTHER POSITIVE WEEKEND FOR YOUTH OF YANKEE
October 1, 2007

Once again, the youth of Yankee United have proven their efforts amongst other clubs throughout the state. The U13 Blaze and U11 Comets highlight the results with a 2-win weekend each. The U11 Comets outscored their opponents 10-3 in two games (8-2 vs Madison and 2-1 to West Hartford) showing once again that this team is a force to be reckoned with. The U13 Blaze had a weekend off from league qualifying matches, blanking both CFC Arsenal and Eastern FC in two weekend friendlies (1-0 and 3-0 respectively) with very good play coming from front to back.

The U14 Comets saw a good 4-2 win versus the CFC Wildcats while the U14 Stars defeated Southeast 4-1. The U12 Comets came through with a spirited, hard fought tie against Beachside, 1-1. The teams are proving that their training is coming into effect and is showing on the field. Good work to everyone!

GOOD RESULTS CONTINUE
September 24, 2007

The U11 Comets came out on top of Academica (twice) on Sunday, while the U12 Comets, U13 Blaze and U14 Stars all had impressive league results this weekend. The U11 Comets took split squads up to Cheshire to battle against a tough Academica team, only to see each of the split squads come away with impressive victories on the road (4-2 in the early game and 5-1 in the night cap). The U12 Comets secured another 8v8 league win by defeating Southeast Premier 2-1 and showing they are still a team to be reckoned with. The U13 Yankee Blaze had their 3rd overall league qualifying game and came out on top over a stingy Marlborough side by the score of 2-0. With The Blaze holding the ball nearly the entire game and playing well they were getting chances only to see them narrowly miss. The U14 Stars battled a tough U14 CFC Wolves team, one which has proved to be a very worthy opponent in recent years. The Stars showed some resiliency however, beating CFC by a 4-2 margin. Good job to all from the weekend!

YOUTH TEAMS IMPRESSIVE OVER WEEKEND
September 17, 2007

The teams U14 and below at Yankee United continue to make noise amongst the Connecticut soccer scene. The U10 Pride had a tremendous display this weekend against Amity, winning by a count of 6-1. The U11 Comets also played an Amity group, to the tune of 8-0 playing quality soccer along the way. The U12 Revolution (Boys) traveled to AC Caldo and came out of Watertown with a 2-1 victory. The U12 Comets played back to back games against Everton. Saturday was an 8v8 League encounter which the Comets came out 1-0 winners, followed by Sunday's 11v11 encounter which the Comets won 2-1. The U13 Blaze had their second League Qualifying game, coming out 5-0 winners against the CFC Wildcats. The 10-man U14 Stars wrapped up the winning weekend with a 3-1 win over Everton in the U14 fall league. Congratulations to all the teams on a good weekend!

U10 PRIDE KICKOFF CAMPAIGN IN STYLE
September 10, 2007

The U10 Yankee United Pride began this weekend having only stepped on the field together to train. Well, the training must have proved worthy because they left the weekend with two wins in two games! Defeating worthy opponents in Naugatuck U10 and West Haven U10 (4-1 and 4-3 respectively) the team has nothing but positives to take out of the weekend! The club is looking for some great things out of this little group in the future; Coach Budreckas has them playing very well to this point! Good work, ladies!

U14 STARS TRAVEL TO MASS
September 3, 2007

The U14 Yankee United Stars traveled to the Stars of MA tournament this Labor Day weekend to face some very talented teams. The group came away with a 1-1-1 record, defeating Nova from Mass and most notably, tying Massapequa 1-1. The group played at a beautiful complex and enjoyed a good weekend of soccer to start to gel as a team until the high schoolers can come back to join them; good work ladies!

NEW YEAR OFFERS GREAT THINGS AT YANKEE
August 9, 2007

Yankee United sent two teams to the TWIST Tournament this past weekend in Wallingford, CT. The U14 Comets played their first tournament of the year before a number of the girls move on to their high school teams and came away with a 1-1-1 record overall, missing the semifinals by only a goal differential tie breaker. The U11 Comets ended up winning all four of their games, most notably against friendly rivals, South Coast Scorpions by a 7-2 margin. Although standings were not officially kept at this age group, the Comets finished with the best overall record in the tournament to take the noted championship. Congrats to both teams; the club is going to see some great things from both teams this year!

NEW YEAR OFFERS GREAT THINGS AT YANKEE
August 9, 2007

The 2007/08 soccer year is going to be a big one at Yankee United. The first of many new things to come this year is the renovation, and private use of, brand new, state of the art athletic facilities at St. Joseph's High School in Trumbull. Yankee will be the only outside soccer club allowed on the premises and kids of all ages will be given everything they need when it comes to training, league games, Region I games, state cups and more! Not only will Yankee United have access to two (2) nearly full sized natural fields and even a natural 8v8, small-sided field but Yankee will also have access to a state of the art turf field to be able to use throughout bad weather, at night with lights and even early in the spring season for Region I games and early season training; a benefit that not many soccer players throughout Connecticut have!

Keep a lookout for other big announcements coming to Yankee soon! For any questions or information, contact Yankee United at info@yankeeunited.com.

U13 COMETS RETAIN DIVISION I STATUS; SOUTHEAST RELEGATED
June 21, 2007

The U13 Comets were faced with a dauting task: Win and you're in! The Comets were facing a Southeast team that recently has had the Comets number, knocking them out of this year's state cup quarterfinals and taking 1 of 2 meetings indoors. Through a 0-0 first half seeing the Comets with the better of the play, the Comets entered the second half with a few question marks. Second halves have not been kind to this team so far this year, however, Wednesday night would be different. Much different. 22 minutes into the half, Hannah Konicki barreled into the goalbox, outworking 3 Southeast defenders to get the ball across to Lia Gagliardi who would finish the play right from the doorstep! Goalkeeper Jordan Fritz kept another clean sheet to preserve the shutout and the Comets prevailed 1-0 to keep their Division I League Status into U14; one of only 2 clubs in Connecticut to have more than one team in Division I. Good job, ladies!

U11 COMETS HAVE SUCCESS IN NORDIC CUP; OTHER RESULTS
June 18, 2007

The U11 Comets traveled to Burlington, VT this past weekend to come back with their heads held high. Starting off with a 5-0 win, a 1-1 tie, the Comets simply needed a win in their final game to reach the finals as one of the top 2 teams in the seven team field. Facing the home team, Nordic Soccer Club, in the final was a tough test but scoring just over 1 minute into the game gave the girls some confidence for the rest of the game.

Tied at 1-1, what can only be described as 'Divine Intervention' gave Nordic the 2-1 lead for good, when from a warm sunny say, a 45 second monsoon swept through the soccer complex, blinding the Comets and putting the wind at Nordic's back to finish a 25 yard strike and seal the scoring at 2-1. The Comets outplayed their competition all weekend, but it just wasnt meant to be. A job well done, irregardless, showing that this team is one to be reckoned with.

In other action around the club, the U10 Comets had two quality wins, 8-2 and 5-2 over Durham and Branford, respectively, while the U13 Revolution finished their league games with a 3-0 win over Everton. Keep checking yankeeunited.com for more information on our teams!

U17 FIRE 'BLAZE' THROUGH COMPETITION
June 12, 2007

The U17 Yankee United Fire came away with a great tournament victory this past weekend. The team traveled to compete in the National Soccer Ranking East Coast Cup and came away with a first place trophy and a lot of smiles. The team scored 14 goals while giving up 0, but needing overtime to defeat the TBAA Comets (NJ) in the finals. Coach Nicki Tessier Pereira said briefly about the game, "it was a thriller!". Congratulations to the girls!

YANKEE PLAYERS SHOW WELL AT RIDER
June 11, 2007

Members of Yankee United represented their state, their club and themselves down in New Jersey this past weekend. Players from the U12 Blaze, U13 Stars, U13 Revolution, U15 Glory and U16 Force were all represented for the U13-U17 Connecticut ODP teams in the Region I Annual ODP Tournament.

While all the Yankee United players seemed to show well for the Regional coaches, the highlights of the weekend came at the two oldest age groups. The U16 ODP team, comprised of 8 Yankee United Players, advanced to the Region I ODP Semi-finals along with the U17 ODP team and lone Yankee representative Ali Espanol, who won their group on goal differential. The ODP Semi-finals and Finals will take place in Kirkwood, DE on June 23 and 24. Good luck to the teams who advanced!

WHATS BETTER THAN ONE STATE CUP CHAMPIONSHIP
June 4, 2007

How about two state cup championships! Yankee United finished the weekend with two teams prevailing as the 2006/07 CJSA State Champions proving that Yankee United is one of the major clubs in Connecticut to be reckoned with.

The U16 Force, coached by Rudy Meredith and Laura Duncan, won a very difficult game over CUFC in pentaly kicks. Going up 1-0 and then again 2-1 just wasnt enough as CUFC battled back. The Force overcame a late equalising goal, overtime and penalty kicks, but with the support of our U11 Comets and U12 Blaze who were on hand for the game, eventually winning and reclaiming the CJSA State Championship! Goalkeeper Ange Tordanato came up large in the penalty shootout making 2 saves, nearly saving 2 more and causing 1 to go high and wide.

The U16 Real (Boys) came into their final against a favored West Hartford team who have been a staple in the CJSA Cup Finals. Early on, the Real rocked the complex by scoring and going up 1-0. West Hartford was able to battle back and eventually tie the game, but overtime and penalty kicks were at hand for this game as well. Goalkeeper Chris Bronski was also a factor making saves and helping the Real come out victorious.

The U13 Stars were finalists on the day, overcoming terrific teams to make it to the Cup Finals and get where many other teams wish they could have been. The team was cracious to the champions and know that they will be back contending next year!

Yankee United is immensely proud of our teams and these three stood out this year as both finalists and champions! Congratulations to everyone!

STATE CUP FINALS; HERE WE COME!
May 21, 2007

The CJSA State Cup Finals are the destination for every youth soccer team in Connecticut and Yankee United has three representatives still standing on the final day. The U13 Stars, U16 Force and the first Boys team ever to represent Yankee United in a final, the U16 Real, are all still standing for the state cup finals on June 3. All state cup finals will be taking place at Newington HS, beginning at 8:30 am.

The U13 Stars met a tough test in Southeast Premier and taking the game on the road didnt make things any easier. With a good first half and strong finish, the Stars were able to leave the Mohegan Valley with a 4-2 win to advance against South Central. The U13 girls state cup final will be held at 9:00 am on NHS field #3.

The U16 Force squared off against the CFC (formerly Trumbull) Lazers. With a confident effort, Yankee United held control of the game from the first minute and through a fine finish by Casey Shulz, were able to advance. The Force will face their biggest competitor, CUFC in the finals. The U16 girls final will be held at 8:30 am on NHS field #4.

Finally, the first ever Yankee United created Boys team will be in the state cup finals after a very intense semifinal with #19 Regionally ranked Oakwood. A 2-2 draw heading into overtime produced no goals and the dreaded penalty kick shootout. With a trip to the cup finals on the line, Yankee United Real stood strong and held off Oakwood to advance against the #12 Regionally ranked West Hartford Premier. The U16 boys final will be held at 8:30 am on NHS field #1.

Good luck to all the teams in the finals!
